So…I see a lot of people hating on the Mega Starmie design. It’s goofy, but the reference is going over our heads. The design is probably a reference to a 1956 Tokatsu Science Fiction film (think Godzilla era of practical affects and kaijus). It was called “Warning from Space” and was directed by Koji Shima. You can see in the flavor text in plza the extraterrestrial inference/allusion. That’s because the film it was inspired by was a Space invasion movie essentially. I think there is also a 1960 DC villain (Starro) with a similar motif/is a reference to this film too?
So in short, this design wasn’t made for you. That’s ok. It was a reference to Japanese media that went over most of our heads. That is all. I’m curious to look into that else they referenced with the new mega evolutions.
It’s so funny to me that my absolute least favorite Pokemon character/arc in Pokemon Legends ZA has to be the Tumblr fandom fave mad mopping boy in suit, Corbeau. Like tumblr been doing so much just shoving this honestly boring af child loan shark and making it seems like he’s some sort of sexy god with so much personality and character of some sort. And like…when he was first introduced I had to keep myself from bursting out laughing because…THIS LITERAL CHILD. SHORT ASS KING THAT EVERYONE WANTS TO APPARENTLY BANG? LIKE IS HE SUPPOSED TO BE THE SAME AGE AS THE PROTAG? BUT THEN WHY DOES HE HAVE SUCH AN OLD MAN FACE???
Also I guess it really didn’t do it for me with the whole “Oh yeah. They are literal loan sharks. But they’re really nice about it! :)”
Even Ivor’s arc was relatively more interesting to me than Corbeau’s because Ivor was at least funny.
pokemon has given us a lot of fun takes on mundane life in the pokemon world over the years but “work-from-home pokemon trainer” has gotta be up there as one of my absolute favorites. sorry can you come in to the office today deborah from finance says she’s supposed to battle you. yeah she says it’s important.

I think this needs an important addendum:
Not only did Billie Eilish donate $11.5M, she also called out a room full of billionaires, including Mark Zuckerberg, directly to their faces, saying “If you’re a billionaire, why are you a billionaire? No hate, but, yeah, give your money away, shorties.”
The $11.5M she’s donating is about ¼ if her net worth. Imagine if a billionaire did that? If Mark Zuckerberg donated ¼ of his net worth, it would be about $55 BILLION… and he’s still have over $100 billion left.
And, yet, unsurprisingly, people are mad at Billie Eilish for what she said and not at the billionaires for hoarding all the money and resources
